1. About these AI Terms

Sage is a parenting support app operated by Begin Learning, Inc. (“Begin,” “we,” “us”). Sage uses artificial intelligence to personalize the guidance, activities, and content you receive.

These AI Terms of Service (“AI Terms”) explain, in one place, what information Sage sends to third-party AI providers, exactly which providers receive it, what those providers are and are not permitted to do with it, and how you can withdraw your permission at any time.

These AI Terms supplement, and do not replace, our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. Where these AI Terms describe our AI features specifically, they control. Where a term is defined in our Terms of Use and not here, that definition applies.

You are asked to agree to these AI Terms when you first open Sage, before any of your information is sent to an AI provider. If you do not agree, you can still use Sage. AI-powered features will be unavailable, and you can turn them on later.

2. Who can use Sage’s AI features

Sage is intended for adults 18 years of age or older, located in the United States. The parent or caregiver is the sole account holder.

Children do not use Sage. Children do not create accounts, do not sign in, and do not interact with Sage’s AI features. Sage is a tool for the adult caring for a child, not a product a child uses.

You may choose to tell us about your child so that Sage can tailor its guidance. You are responsible for the information you choose to share about your child, and you may remove it at any time.

3. What Sage’s AI features do

Sage uses AI to:

  • Generate personalized responses to the questions you ask in chat
  • Create a personalized welcome item during onboarding, such as an activity or coloring sheet reflecting your child’s name and interests
  • Recommend and summarize articles, activities, and learning pathways
  • Search the web for relevant, current content to support the guidance you receive

Every one of these features requires sending some of your information to a third-party AI provider. That is what these AI Terms cover.

4. What information is sent to AI providers

When you use Sage’s AI features, the following may be sent to the providers named in Section 5:

Information you write. The messages, questions, and notes you enter in Sage. Because this is free-form text, it may contain whatever you choose to include, including details about you or your child.

Your child’s profile information. First name, age or birth month and year, gender, interests, play preferences, and any area of focus you select.

Your personalization profile. The preferences and settings that shape the guidance Sage gives you.

Technical context. A request identifier and the technical metadata needed to route and return a response.

What is not sent

We do not send the following to any AI provider:

  • Your sign-in credentials. Authentication is handled separately and never reaches an AI model.
  • Payment information. Sage is free and we do not collect it.
  • Your precise location, contacts, photo library, or health records from any connected source.

5. Which AI providers receive it

We use the following third-party providers. Each is engaged under a written commercial agreement and acts as a service provider processing information on our instructions.

PROVIDERWHAT IT DOES FOR SAGEWHAT IT RECEIVES
Google Cloud AI platform (serving Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude models)Generates chat responses, personalized content, and welcome itemsYour messages, your child’s profile information, and your personalization profile
PerplexityWeb search that powers article and content recommendationsSearch queries derived from your requests
LangfuseAI observability. Stores request and response records so we can debug problems and review qualityRequest and response records, which may include the content above

If we add, remove, or replace an AI provider, we will update this document and, where the change is material, ask you to review and agree again in the app before the new provider receives your information.

6. What our providers may not do

Each provider named in Section 5 is bound by written contract to:

  • Process your information only on our documented instructions, and solely to provide services to us
  • Not train or fine-tune their models on your information
  • Not use your information for their own purposes, including their own product development or marketing
  • Protect your information to a standard at least equivalent to the protections described in our Privacy Policy
  • Impose equivalent obligations on any subprocessor they engage

One narrow exception. Content that a provider’s automated safety systems flag may be retained temporarily by that provider for safety review, in accordance with their standard safety practices. This is a safety mechanism, not a training or commercial use.

We do not sell your information

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising or cross-app tracking. Sage is free and does not serve ads.

7. Where information is processed, and how long it is kept

Your chat history and profile information are stored on Begin’s own infrastructure in the United States.

Information sent to AI providers is processed for the purpose of returning a response. Providers do not retain it for their own use, subject to the safety-review exception in Section 6 and to observability records held by Langfuse on our behalf.

When you delete your Sage account, we delete your information from our systems and send deletion requests to each provider named in Section 5. Backups may persist for a limited period before they are overwritten in the ordinary course.

Full retention detail is set out in the Retention section of our Privacy Policy.

8. Your consent, and how to withdraw it

How we obtain it. When you first open Sage, before you create an account and before you enter any information about yourself or your child, Sage presents these AI Terms and asks you to agree. Agreeing is an affirmative action you take by checking a box and continuing. It is not assumed from your continued use of the app, and it is not pre-selected for you.

Nothing is sent before you agree. You cannot proceed past this screen without agreeing. Until you do, Sage sends no information to any of the providers named in Section 5.

What happens if you decline. Sage remains available. AI-powered personalization is turned off, and no information is sent to the providers named in Section 5. You can enable it later when you use a feature that requires it.

How to withdraw. Contact us at support@beginlearning.com to withdraw your permission, or delete your account at any time in Settings.

What we record. When you agree, we record which version of these AI Terms you agreed to and when, so that both of us have an accurate record.

9. Important limits on AI-generated guidance

Please read this section carefully.

Sage is not a medical, psychological, or developmental professional. Guidance generated by Sage is for informational and educational purposes only. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or professional advice, and it does not create any clinical or professional relationship.

Do not use Sage in an emergency. If you believe your child is in danger or needs urgent medical attention, call 911 or your local emergency number.

AI output can be wrong. AI systems generate responses based on patterns and probability. Output may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or inappropriate for your situation. You should use your own judgment, and consult a qualified professional, before acting on anything Sage tells you.

Every child is different. Guidance that suits one family may not suit yours. You know your child; Sage does not.

Content and safety. We apply safety filtering to AI output, and our providers apply their own. No filtering is perfect. If Sage produces something inappropriate, please report it at support@beginlearning.com so we can investigate.

10. Human review

Members of our team may review AI conversations and outputs for quality, safety, and debugging purposes, subject to internal access controls. We do this to make Sage better and safer, not to monitor individual families.

11. Changes to these AI Terms

We may update these AI Terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.

If a change is material, including adding a new AI provider or expanding the categories of information sent, we will notify you and ask you to review and agree again in the app before the change applies to your information.
