Why Using Ten Frames Matters for Growing Minds
Using ten frames helps children see numbers, not just count them. By arranging objects in two rows of five, kids develop subitization—the ability to recognize small quantities instantly without needing to count each one. Subitization is an essential early math skill, as it supports number sense, counting fluency, and addition and subtraction.
✨ Want to make it even more meaningful? You can have them explain their thinking out loud—like how they knew to add more to make ten—which helps strengthen both math understanding and communication skills.
